The project acts as a testing ground for experimental residential typologies and how these can serve as a backbone to an integral urban project. By constructing an inventory of residential block types in order to rethink the relationships between density, grid, block, building typology and open space in the context of Manhattan block. In consideration with the contemporary issues of domesticity and affordable housing provision as Manhattan is currently undergoing a significant housing shortage. Moreover, as the site is located on the former Con Ed redevelopment it acts as the backbone to the missing link in Manhattan’s waterfront green way. It also addresses affordability by accommodating for the co living trend that is booming in major cities as the housing market moves away from the ownership model towards a service model due to the rising rent and changing lifestyle, that is achieved by providing shared space, services, community and social interaction hubs in order to help reduce costs for residents.
